Visiting Söderhamn page 2

This is one of the most rich ornamented houses on Kungsgatan in Söderhamn, which was built in 1880 from plans by the arcitect C. H. Eriksson, This was a private home from the beginning.

This is also on Kungsgatan in Söderhamn. It is the former Electricity plants office building which was built in 1890 by Gustav Hultqvist. This was also a private home from the beginning.

This is also on Kungsgatan in Söderhamn. It is the former Sparbankshuset (the office building for Söderhamns savings-bank) which was built in 1912 by the bank. This house has appartments on the upper floors. Later the bank has moved to the low new building to the right of this house.

Kyrkogatan at a block called Tigern (the tiger) on the westside in Söderhamn. These pair houses was built from plans by the arcitect C. Dahlgren in 1878 by Ellberg and Brolin. These two houses has appartments on both floors. They are typical for the buildings built after the fire in 1876. At this time the builders wanted their wooden buildings to look like the more expensive stone buildings.

Rådhusgatan 3 to the left and in the distance, the old railroad viaduct from 1886 when the railroad came to Söderhamn, behind the viaduct is the town hall square in the distance.

This is the town hall in Söderhamn, which was built in 1860 but it was destroyed in the fire 1876 and rebuilt into this form with a new roof and tower and a more decorated fasad. To the left is Stadshotellet (city hotel) built 1879. The monument on the square is an Obelisk ercted in 1899 to celebrate the king Gustav II Adolf who founded the city in 1620.

The vicarage in Söderhamn, which was built in 1879 as one of rather few stone buildings in the town. The two story building is the parish hall. To the far right is Lönnen where Patent & Registreringsverket (department for brand names and person name changes) is situated. This building is from 1982 and here was a Health center and pharmacy from the beginning, but they have moved in the mid 90's.

This is Västra Storgatan in Söderhamn, the block Tigern is to the right which you can see on another picture on this page. On the mountain is Oscarsborg which was built i 1895 by founds raised by a singer association. The green railroad viaduct to the right is not in use today after the railroad have moved outside town center in 1997.

This is same view as on page one but taken 15 years later when the railroad have moved outside the center. This picture was taken from the base of the tower Oscarsborg you see on the picture above.

This is almost the same view as the picture of Västra Storgatan in Söderhamn. Here can you also see the tower Oscarsborg just under the bridge taking Västra Tullgatan over the railroad tracks. When this view was taken in july 2000, the railroad tracks was partly removed.
